Robin Hood may be romanticized in Hollywood, but not so much in this above scene from the time-travel fantasy Time Bandits.
In the clip actor-comedian John Cleese plays a champagne socialist version of Robin Hood who leads a bunch of not-so-merry men.
After Hood addresses the film’s six dwarf robbers and Kevin, the film’s young protagonist, some loot gets handed out to the poor.
But the poor get walloped — in over-the-top slapstick fashion — by Hood’s thugs. It’s a comic and way over-the-top take on the idea of wealth distribution via violent means.

Released in 1981, Time Bandits was a critical and commercial success that soon developed a cult following.
Another fellow Monty Python team member Michael Palin co-wrote the film with Gilliam. Palin also features in several scenes in the movie.
Time Bandits was the first of three films that Gilliam made during the 1980s, with the other two being Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
There have been recent media reports that a version of Time Bandits will be made into a TV series for Apple with Kiwi filmmaker Taika Waititi set to direct the pilot.
