He did not have much money and very little filmmaking experience, so there’s little wonder that Aussie film director George Miller says that making 1979’s Mad Max was his most difficult movie-making endeavor.
Miller and his filmmaking partner Byron Kennedy also had little in the way of expectation that they made a film that would become a landmark in cinema history
In the above documentary, Miller and other cast and crew talk about the making of that first indie production and its 1981 follow-up Mad Max 2 (known as The Road Warrior in the U.S.) and how both movies have become so highly influential in modern culture, particularly within the action and post-apocalyptic genres.

The documentary doesn’t talk about the other two Mad Max films that followed—Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)—but it comes out as anticipation builds for the release of Mad Max: Furiosa, which is being slated to be one of 2024’s cinematic highlights.
