German filmmaker Edward Berger helms this version which was filmed in the Czech Republic last year.

Among its actors—known to international audiences—is Daniel Brühl in a supporting role while lesser-known Felix Kammerer takes the lead as soldier Paul Bäumer.

Berger’s film has already been named Germany’s submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards to be held in March 2023.

The first film adaption of All Quite on the Western Front—made in 1930, only a year after the novel was first published—won a swag of top Academy Awards that year with Lewis Milestone winning for directing while the film overall won best picture and an award for outstanding production.

The second adaption was made for TV in 1979 and starred Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine. It won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Made for Television.

Berger’s All Quite on the Western Front will be on Netflix from Oct. 28 onwards and will be showing at select theaters in October.
