The above clip from the 2011 film Moneyball is a pure joy to watch.
It features Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane—played by Brad Pitt—telling a bunch of aging talent scouts how they’re going to recruit for the upcoming season. It might be five minutes long, but it goes by like a flash due to its crisp dialogue, great acting, and directing.
Amidst it all (but wishing he wasn’t) is the Yale-educated economist Peter Brand character played by Jonah Hill.

The film, if you haven’t seen it, is centered on Pitt’s and Hill’s characters’ efforts to create a winning baseball team from a bunch of misfits.
Also starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt, Moneyball was both a critical and box-office success. It’s not just a movie for sports fans.
Pitt and Hill earned two of Moneyball’s six Academy Award nominations, which also included Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing. But it did not win any Oscars.
The film is based on a book by Michael Lewis about the true story of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane and his efforts to assemble a winning baseball team on a limited budget.
