As per the video, Krasinski’s gifts as a human being and director are on display as he shows how the opening scene was shot in two parts.
The first part is shown from the perspective of his character and his character’s daughter played by the wonderful Millicent Simmonds who is hearing-impaired.
The second part features Krasinski’s (real life and onscreen) wife Emily Blunt with the film’s family’s other two kids.
In each of these parts of the opening scene features how the family had their first run-in with the alien monsters who wreak havoc in their small American town.
Krasinski said that for his wife’s shot there were three weeks of preparations needed to make sure it would be done right on the day of filming.
For his opening scene, Krasinski said he was inspired by the ambush scene in the 2006 movie Children of Men which you can see in the below video.
