Yifei Wang was once a journalist for a state-run media in China until she had to flee her homeland for the U.S. Now Yifei lives in San Francisco where she is able to do her Falun Gong meditation practice without the fear of being persecuted for her beliefs.
Back in China, the Chinese communist regime’s crackdown claimed the life of her younger sister Kefei who was imprisoned for her faith. Their brother Leo was also held in a labor camp for 13 abusive years for the same reason.
It sounds a grim tale, but it’s told with a lot of strength, warmth and love by director Kay Rubacek in her documentary film Finding Courage.
You can watch a trailer for her film above, just press the top left play button on the feature image.
Rubacek and her team at Swoop Films were aiming for a cinema release but due to the pandemic Finding Courage was made available through other platforms while playing at numerous film festivals where it won up to six awards. If you are interested in purchasing it, you can click here to go to the film-maker’s website.
Zip Movie Hub has seen Finding Courage and we highly recommend anyone to watch it. After viewing it you can’t but help to have admiration for those at the heart of the film.
Swoop Films has made a number of films with one being the award-winning documentary Hard to Believe (click to watch here) about forced organ harvesting in China. You can also watch a 10-minute documentary by Swoop Films below about the persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual practice.
