Connery made his name by being the first James Bond which he played in seven films. The suave 007 may have been his breakout role but the man’s man earned praise for many other films including A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), The Name of the Rose (1986), The Untouchables (1987), and The Hunt for Red October (1990).
It was his role as a tough Irish-American cop in The Untouchables that he won his one and only Oscar. He also earned three Golden Globes and two Bafta awards. He was knighted in 2000.
