The Polish people have suffered much in modern history, especially during World War II. In the above documentary, British-born Patrick Ney tells the story of the Warsaw Uprising which occurred Aug. 1–2 Oct. 2, 1944.
The brutal 63-day-long battle began when the Polish resistance sought to liberate the city from German occupation.
It was a valiant attempt mercilessly pounded by the worst elements of the German war machine, i.e. mass-murdering SS troops.

Between 150,000–200,000 Polish civilians were killed, most of them massacred. Around 250,000 people in total died in the battle. An estimated 85 percent of the entire city of Warsaw was completely destroyed.
As Patrick says: “It was hell on earth.”
While the fighting occurred, Soviets forces were held back by Stalin outside the city. The Soviets finally entered the city, but they proved not to be liberators. Instead, they became the new occupiers.
Patrick is a natural storyteller who loves his adopted country. It’s most of him in the video telling the story of the Warsaw Uprising in 63 episodes that are combined here in one film.
