Faith-based films don’t get made very much in modern times. But the story of three Portuguese children seeing visions of a beautiful young lady — said to be the Virgin Mary — has been the subject of many films.
Starring Harvey Keitel, Goran Visnjic and Sônia Braga, Fatima is the latest version of what the three children experienced in 1917.

Directed by Marco Pontecorvo, Fatima tells how the children inspire believers but anger officials of both the Church and the secular government, who try to force them to recant their story.
The anticlerical Portuguese government of the time — around World War I — were hostile towards the Catholic Church.
Fatima was meant to be released in April but this has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
