Overview: Earth From Above

Overview documents astronauts’ life-changing experiences of seeing the Earth from way up above.

The late Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell and Shuttle astronaut Nicole Stott are two of the eight interviewed about their experiences ‘earth gazing’ in the above 19-minute long film.

“I think you start out with an idea of what it is going to be like and then when you finally look at the Earth for the first time; you’re overwhelmed by how much beautiful it really is,” Stott says.

The “Overview Effect”, as first described by author Frank White back in the late 1980s, is an experience that alters an astronaut’s perception of planet Earth and mankind’s place upon it. Overview explores this phenomenon.
