There’s been some incredible movies made about World War I. The Australian production Gallipoli and the Stanley Kubrick’s Path to Glory are two among them.
Peter Jackson’s historical documentary They Shall Not Grow Old was another.
How the upcoming film 1917 by director Sam Mendes will fit among them remains to be seen but going by its trailer and the above behind the scenes feature it looks like it will be a worthy depiction of that terrible conflict.

1917 follows two young British soldiers on a dangerous mission to save 1,600 men from certain doom during the war. It’s a race against time.
Cinematography is by Roger Deakins who also shot Unbroken for Angelina Jolie and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford for Andrew Dominik.
