Based on Homer’s Iliad, director Wolfgang Petersen’s film Troy was big, dumbed-down and corny yet easy, and some say enjoyable, to watch. Check out the trailer above.
Released in 2004, Troy got hammered by a host of critics while some appreciated its scale, especially its battle scenes.
“It means to please, it’s good-hearted and lazy, it always takes the easy way out, and it wants you to like it,” wrote Stephen Hunter for the Washington Post.

Overall Troy was somewhat better received by audiences who lapped up the grand visuals and swordplay between Brad Pitt as Achilles and Eric Bana as Prince Hector.
Shot in Malta and Mexico, the blockbuster also starred Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Brendan Gleeson, Brian Cox, Peter O’Toole, Sean Bean, Julie Christie, Rose Byrne and Saffron Burrows.
