A Bridge Too Far is one of the best World War II films made. At least in the eyes of Zip!
Directed by the legendary Richard Attenborough, it tells the story of the botched attempt to end the war by Christmas 1944.

The offensive action was named Called Operation Market Garden and through it the Allies sought to bust the German lines and seize several bridges in the occupied Netherlands.
Just as the operation itself, the movie was a mammoth undertaking that was praised for being historically accurate but panned by some as being repetitive and overly long.
Big and epic in every way it included some of the biggest names of the time such as as: Dirk Bogarde, James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Edward Fox, Elliott Gould, Anthony Hopkins, Gene Hackman, Hardy Krüger, Laurence Olivier, Ryan O’Neal, Robert Redford, Maximilian Schell and Liv Ullmann.
Released in 1977, A Bridge Too Far did well in European cinemas but did only so-so in the US. Watch a clip of the film here featuring Edward Fox.
