Bitter Harvest: An Untold Story

During the 1930s, Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin subjected independently-minded Ukraine to a man-made famine.

While much of the world was unaware, the famine killed 7 to 10 million innocent people.  At the height of the famine in June 1933, some 28,000 people were dying each day. Half of that number are believed to have been children.

The famine is known as the “Holodomor” (death by hunger).

It wasn’t until after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 that this form of genocide gained the world’s attention.

Now for the first time a major motion picture has been made about this piece of tragic history in the form of Bitter Harvest.

In the above interview Max Irons (son of Jeremy Irons), Samantha Barks, and Tamer Hassan offer details on the film.

“It is a must see movie in the sense that it is a story that needs to be told,” says Hassan in the interview.

Also starring Barry Pepper and Terence Stamp, Bitter Harvest was mainly filmed on location in Ukraine by a Ukrainian director and crew.

Unfortunately, the film has been judged by many critics as an example of disappointing film-making.
