The above trailer for 2004’s Alexander offered promise. It’s just a frustrating shame the film failed to — despite an amazing depiction of the Battle of Gaugamela — live up to its hype.
Instead Alexander found itself largely panned by critics while managing to attract six Golden Raspberry Awards nominations in 2005 — Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Colin Farrell), Worst Actress (Angelina Jolie) and Worst Director (Oliver Stone), Worst Supporting Actor (Val Kilmer) and Worst Screenplay. But, at least, the sand and sandal epic won none of these categories.
The trailer featured above is for the initial theatrical release that was 175 minutes long. Three home video versions followed — a Director’s Cut (2005), The Final Cut in 2007 and the so-called The Ultimate Cut in 2013.

Eventually, it’s believed somewhere along the line, the film made back its $150 million plus budget.
