Lovers of modern music were shocked in early 2016 when David Bowie past away two days after both his 69th birthday and the release of his last album, Blackstar.
As a prolific singer-songwriter Bowie sang his fair share of theme songs for movies such as the seven minute plus piece for the 1986 rock musical Absolute Beginners which you watch and listen to above. The song went to number two in the UK charts.

Many of his more classic tracks have been used in films throughout the years, such as Golden Years for A Knight’s Tale, Starman for the Ridley Scott film The Martian and numerous uses and covers of his classic Heroes from his Berlin period released in 1977.

As a sometimes actor, Bowie’s first lead roles were The Man Who Fell to Earth and Just a Gigolo in the 1970s. His next efforts Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence and The Hunger were both released in 1983.
He likewise had support roles and cameos in films such as Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ where he played Pontius Pilate and in Zoolander where he was himself.
He was also in Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige where he played inventor Nikola Tesla.
